Installation Instructions
Tools You'll Need
Required:
- Your hands! (Seriously, that's it)
Optional:
- Adjustable wrench (only if existing showerhead is extremely tight)
- Clean cloth or towel
Installation Time: 5 minutes or less
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Step 1: Turn Off the Water
Before you begin, turn off the water supply to your shower. This prevents any unexpected spray or water waste during installation.
Tip: If there's no shut-off valve in your bathroom, simply avoid turning on the shower during installation.
Step 2: Remove Your Old Showerhead
Unscrew your existing showerhead by turning it counterclockwise (lefty-loosey).
- Most showerheads can be removed by hand
- If it's stuck, use an adjustable wrench wrapped in a cloth to protect the finish
- Be prepared for a few drops of residual water
Step 3: Clean the Shower Arm
Inspect and clean the threaded pipe (shower arm) where your old showerhead was attached.
Remove:
- Old plumber's tape
- Mineral deposits or buildupAny debris or rust
- Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe it down. A clean surface ensures a proper, leak-free seal.
Step 4: Apply Teflon Tape (Included)
Wrap the provided Teflon tape around the threads of the shower arm:
- Start at the base of the threads
- Wrap clockwise (same direction you'll screw on the connector)
- Apply 3-4 layers, overlapping slightly
- Press the tape firmly into the threads
This creates a watertight seal and prevents leaks.
Step 5: Attach the Adjustable Connector
Screw the universal connector/mount onto the shower arm:
- Turn clockwise (righty-tighty)
- Hand-tighten until snug and secure
- Do NOT over-tighten—hand-tight is sufficient
The connector should feel firm but should not require excessive force.
Step 6: Connect the Stainless Steel Hose
Attach one end of the flexible hose to the connector you just installed:
- Screw on by hand, turning clockwise
- Tighten until secure (no tools needed)
- Ensure the rubber washer inside the hose connector is properly seated
Step 7: Attach the Luravai Showerhead
Connect the other end of the hose to your Luravai Filtered Showerhead™:
- Screw on clockwise by hand
- Tighten until secure
- Check that the rubber washer is in place for a leak-free connection
Step 8: Turn On the Water & Check for Leaks
Slowly turn your water supply back on (or turn on your shower):
- Let water flow for 10-15 seconds
- Inspect all connections for leaks:
- Shower arm to connector
- Connector to hose
- Hose to showerhead
If you notice leaks:
- Turn off water
- Hand-tighten the leaking connection
- Add more Teflon tape if needed
- Test again
Step 9: Adjust Your Showerhead
Position your Luravai showerhead to your preferred angle using the adjustable mount. The flexible hose allows for easy maneuvering.
Step 10: Enjoy Your First Filtered Shower!
Turn on your shower and select your preferred spray mode:
Rainfall Mode – Gentle, spa-like cascade
Mixed Mode – Balanced pressure
Mist Mode – Soothing, steam-like spray
Jet Mode – Powerful, invigorating stream
Experience the difference of clean, filtered water instantly!
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Problem: Water Leaking at Connections
Solution:
- Turn off water
- Hand-tighten all connections
- Check that rubber washers are properly seated
- Reapply Teflon tape to shower arm threads if needed
- Ensure you're not cross-threading (threads should align smoothly)
Problem: Low Water Pressure
Possible Causes & Solutions:
- Filter needs flushing: Run water for 30 seconds to clear any air pockets from the new filter
- Hose kinked or twisted: Straighten the hose to allow proper water flow
- Flow restrictor (if present): Some homes have flow restrictors—ensure the showerhead is compatible with your system
- Clogged shower arm: Clean out the shower arm pipe before installation
- Home water pressure: Luravai works best with standard home water pressure (20-80 PSI)
- Problem: Showerhead Won't Stay in Position
Solution:
- Tighten the connector/mount on the shower arm
- Adjust the angle of the mount
- Ensure the mount is properly threaded onto the shower arm
Filter Replacement
Your Luravai comes with 3 extra filter cartridges. Replace your filter every 4-6 months (or sooner if you have very hard water).
How to Replace:
- Unscrew the showerhead face (counterclockwise)
- Remove the old filter cartridge
- Insert the new filter cartridge
- Screw the showerhead face back on (clockwise)
- Run water for 30 seconds to activate the new filter
- Filter Lifespan Indicators:
- Reduced water pressure
- 4-6 months of use
- Noticeable change in water quality
Safety & Care Tips
- Do NOT over-tighten connections – This can crack plastic threads or damage seals. Hand-tight is sufficient.
- Turn off water before installation – Prevents accidents and water waste
- Use Teflon tape correctly – Wrap clockwise to prevent tape from unwinding during installation
- Check for leaks regularly – Inspect connections monthly to catch potential issues early
- Clean your showerhead monthly – Wipe down with a soft cloth; soak in white vinegar if mineral buildup occurs
- Store extra filters in a cool, dry place – Keep filters sealed until ready to use
